Report from Overwatch Outpost:
Water temps have hit 45°, and the fish are active! The flows have been a bit crazy, with prevalent high flows up to 3,000 cfs. This looks to be returning to normal, now that the rain has slowed down. We’ve been hammering rainbows with nymph patters, such as the Jailbird, as well as a variety of emergers. Olive wooly buggers are a good choice, if you’re fishing the deep pools. Watch for rising fish, and switch to a Hendrickson or March Brown pattern, if you see them actively taking from the surface. The river is filthy with trout, that’s for sure!
I would like to welcome our newest guide. An original Deerfield River man, who has written numerous articles, and created the Jailbird pattern. Welcome, Roger Blair. It’s great to have you onboard with us at Overwatch Outpost!
If you would like to book a guide, give us a call at 413-339-8800. We offer great rates for drift trips and wading trips, with top notch Orvis equipment!
